[Women's Self Defense Syllabus]

Classes will take place once a week, on Wednesdays. There will be a 10 minute cardio warm up before each class, lecture or physical.

A note on teaching style: Peggy is a tough instructor (and will slip into her military bearings more often than not), but she is incredibly patient and helpful when needed. The way she sees it, she's tough on her students because there won't be anything easy about getting into a situation where what she's teaching will be used, and she will say so.

Week 1 - May 16 (Intro)
Getting to know students
Getting to know student skill levels

Week 2 - May 23 (Lecture)
Basics of thinking about safety
Situational awareness
Intuition: What it is and how to use it
How to be assertive and set boundaries

Week 3 - May 30 (Lecture)
How to avoid dangerous situations when you can
How to keep a non-violent confrontation from escalating
Role playing confrontations

Week 4 - June 6 (Lecture & Physical)
Basic physical self defense
How, when and where to strike
Learning the four vulnerable zones
Soft test on fellow students

Week 5 - June 13 (Lecture & Physical)
Basic physical self defense:
What to do from the floor
Escape from grabs and choke holds
Soft test on fellow students

Week 6 - June 20 (Physical)
Practicing basic physical defense
Special guest will be made available for practical self defense application

Week 7 - June 27 (Physical)
Practicing basic physical defense
Special guest will be made available for practical self defense application

Week 8 - July 4
NO CLASS

Week 9 - July 11 (Physical)
Practicing basic physical defense
Going over lecture material
Class will be split into two groups, leaders appointed
Leaders will be in charge of making sure their entire group knows all basic self defense moves

Week 11 - July 25 (Testing)
Physical exam on basic self defense
Special guest will be made available for physical exam

Week 12 - August 1 (Lecture & Physical)
Weapons:
How to use known weapons
How to turn everyday items into weapons
How to use weapons along with self defense moves learned so far

Week 13 - August 8 (Trip)
Defense in various environments: Jungle
Situational awareness
Using your surroundings - hiding, evasion, weapons

Week 14 - August 15 (Trip)
Defense in various environments: Beach
Situational awareness
Using your surroundings - hiding, evasion, weapons

Week 15 - August 15 (Physical)
Catch up on any weak spots students may have
Practice all types of self defense learned

Week 16 - August 22 (Test)
Final Physical Exam
